Like all things, it starts with light.
Light, as a phenomenon, is something wonderful, something gracious, something warm. It’s something to be looked at and cherished, brilliant and blinding, beautiful in its intensity and burning in its pain.
It’s why, when the Deku Tree is born, but the first sprout blooming from the cracked, ravaged earth of the Surface in the aftermath of a war between the very gods that made it, it does not turn its leaves to soak in the light of the sun that is still covered by ash, but instead the orange glow of firelight from a distant mountain, the only source of warmth in an otherwise cold, frigid world.
Deep beneath the ground, its roots tremble with a weak, Hello.
The mountain leaks liquid fire that bubbles in response, a muffled, Hello.

At the beginning of a new world, two forces of nature meet.
