2 Works in Possession
“Can you make him hold me?” Nanu asks.
“I’m the one who freed you. This is the least you can do.”
With a look that can only be described as bemusement, Mewtwo waves its hand. Giovanni obediently lopes over and scoops Nanu up, bridal style.
“Is this what you had in mind?” Mewtwo asks.
“Yes,” Nanu whispers, “now make him tell me that I’m handsome.”
Aziraphale has never had cause to possess someone’s body. Heavenly duties are not any better achieved by being someone else. Crowley has imparted upon him a few, brief, mostly drunken recounts of times he’s possessed other’s bodies, but those events had the unencouraging prerequisite of either being discorporated or leaving your vacant body unattended. While the paperwork to renew a corporation was tedious, no situation has ever called for such a thing.
This is why he forgets, after he touches the globe in Heaven. Why he follows up, “Pity I can’t inhabit yours,” with a thoughtful, “Oh, perhaps I could, actually.”
[OR: Aziraphale finds Crowley in the bar, and doesn't end up possessing Madame Tracy this time.]
